The Messiah

The term Messiah refers to the ‘anointed one’ or the ‘chosen one’. It signifies that Jesus was sent by God and divinely appointed to be the Deliverer and King of His people. Throughout the New Testament, Jesus was recognized as the chosen one, through His resurrection from the dead and the miracles He performed.

The Messiah’s purpose was to save humanity, and this salvation was accomplished through Jesus’ death and resurrection. Jesus as the Messiah delivers us from the power and penalty of sin. Through His sacrificial death and resurrection, Jesus provides salvation and eternal life. As we go through the scriptures, I will show all the things Jesus did to show and say that He was The Messiah.

Jesus fulfilled the title of the Messiah from the Old Testament in several ways. First, the Old Testament prophesied that the Messiah would be born of a virgin, and Jesus was indeed born to the Virgin Mary. Additionally, the Old Testament foretold that the Messiah would be from the lineage of King David, and Jesus was a descendant of David. Furthermore, the Old Testament predicted that the Messiah would perform miraculous signs and wonders, and Jesus fulfilled this through his numerous healings, exorcisms, and even raising people from the dead. Moreover, the Old Testament stated that the Messiah would be rejected, suffer, and die for the sins of humanity, and Jesus willingly took on this role by being crucified on the cross. Through his fulfillment of these Old Testament prophecies, Jesus distinctly proved himself to be the long-awaited Messiah.
